Several technology events boosting business activities this autumn

One of the events that started the busy event flow on the 17th of September was the Finntech AbuDhabi 2018 that hosted the FinTech Abu Dhabi Innovation Challenge Demo day. It is an initiative of Abu Dhabi Global Market in collaboration with KPMG to support the development of FinTech within the region, and to act as a catalyst for collaboration between incumbent financial services institutions and FinTech start-ups. In this year’s Challenge, selected start-ups were tasked to develop a prototype solution addressing real business issues identified by our UAE-based institutions.

Finntech Abu Dhabi 2018 was followed by Critical Communications MENA 2018 that was organised sixth time on the 23rd to 25th of September. Dubai was chosen as a location due to UAE’s leading role in the development of next generation of critical communications. One of the major themes explored was TETRA and LTE networks operating simultaneously to support public safety organisations and other organisations utilizing latest critical communication services.

Largest  IT event on the region is the 38th GITEX Technology week that will be organised in Dubai World Trade Centre on the 14th to 18th of October. There will be more than 4000 exhibitors offering latest solutions around AI, blockchain, robotics, cloud and other mega trends, as GITEX takes visitors on a multi-sensory experience of Future Urbanism. GITEX also hosts GITEX Future Stars, start-up show with more than 850 start-ups from over 75 countries. The GITEX targets more than 100k visitors around the world and no wonder, because as per Gartner, the total value of the Middle East & North Africa technology sector is expected to reach $168.8 billion by 2020.

In addition to events in the UAE, UAE Ministry of Economy jointly with Embassy of Finland in Abu Dhabi is planning to send a delegation to Finland and Slush in December. Currently Ministry of Economy is looking for UAE companies and Emirati investors to join the delegation.  Target of the delegation is to strengthen the UAE’s commercial and investment cooperation with Finland, especially in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

All these events and Finland’s preparation for Expo 2020 promise interesting autumn ahead.
